Let me first tell you a little about us. My wife Teresa and I were lucky enough to become Parents for the first time in May 2006.
As many of you will know, the birth of your first child is an amazing experience and starts:

We had an endless stream of visitors and well-wishers, dirty nappies and sleepless nights.
Oh yes .... Life is very different with a youngster in the house !!!
We used to go out with friends regularly partying and having fun! ... Now we were up to our necks in DIRTY NAPPIES and of course usually quite tired!!!
But let me assure you ...
being a Parent is GREAT FUN!!
Those early days were hard-going though.
When people came around we didn't have the energy to really explain what was going on in our new life ... so many things were happening, and every day was a new experience.
Luckily we had good people around us who passed on their own advice before Evie was born, so none of this came as a surprise.
During Teresa's pregancy, we prepared for our new arrival by doing all of the usual things, decorating a nursery, buying various items of furniture etc.
We also wanted something that would help us announce our new arrival ... and so we set about launching a baby annoucement service on the web. We then realised this would be good for toddlers and younger kids too:

We surveyed our friends and asked them what the greatest challenges were in relation to keeping friends and family in the loop:

Like my survey showed, most people get caught in the vicious cycle of looking after the kids, going about their daily business and occasionally bumping into a friend, and very occasionally phoning distant family members in far-off places to share the latest family news.
